The Sydney Markets, Fresh Awards Providore of the Year Award will recognise a fresh fruit and vegetable providore that demonstrates a high degree of competence across a wide criterion.
The recipient of the Providore of the Year Award will operate a wholesale providoring business in NSW or ACT and buy fresh produce from Sydney Markets regularly. A providore is a business that primarily specialises in wholesaling fresh fruit and veg to foodservice. For the purpose of this competition a providore is not a greengrocer/retailer with a shop front that also wholesales to foodservice.
Nominations can be made by chefs, food and beverage managers, business owners or managers who utilise a providore's services, providers can also self-nominate.
Nominees will be judged on the following areas:
• Communication
• Quality
• Pricing and payment
• Product knowledge
• Presentation
• Innovation
• Work health and safety
• Food safety
• Environmental policy and practices
Each nominee will be required to support their nomination by providing Sydney Markets Limited (SML) with the contact details for 3 customers.
The customers will be asked to complete an online survey assessing the providore on their communication, quality, pricing and payment and product knowledge.
All information will be gathered and scores tallied to determine the top four finalists for the Providore of The Year Award.
SML will conduct an inspection of the four finalists – judging on elements such as presentation, innovation, work health and safety, food safety and environmental policy and practices.
The customers' scores of the four finalists will be collated together with SML's site assessments to determine the ultimate winner. The winner will be announced at the 2024 Fresh Awards event.
